2016 Gala Auction Bid Leads to Once in a Lifetime Experience

Nick Matte,14, as the co-pilot.

A night on the town to support a great cause is always an exciting experience, but winning a coveted auction item simply pushes the experience to another level – especially if it is an auction item you have long desired.

Perkins Clinical Coordinator Bridget Matte, her husband Greg, and her son Nick had the opportunity to fly to Nantucket in a private plane and enjoy a day on the island thanks to their generous bid on an auction item at last year’s Inaugural Evening Under the Stars, Creating Bright Futures Gala. The trip – sponsored by Costas Malapanis and Cherie Ansin – was a private flight for two from Nashua to Nantucket Island for a day of relaxation, plus $200 in cash to spend while exploring. The Matte family chose to explore on bikes.

“Neither my husband nor I had been to the island before, but our son had been there with a Scouting group and was excited to show us around,” Bridget said. “The best part of the day was our visit to Brant Point and the Working Mill – actually that was the best part when we were on the island.” The highlight – according to Bridget – was seeing her son in the co-pilot’s chair of the plane on their flight. “Seeing my son as the co-pilot was awesome,” Bridget said. “It was a delight and a once in a lifetime unexpected turn of events.”

Nick was thrilled to learn about the mechanics of the plane and experience the trip from above. “Truly, this is the only way to go to Nantucket,” Bridget said. “It sounds so funny to say we just flew over. I feel so spoiled to have experienced the beauty of the island from above and without weekend crowds.”

Bridget went on to say how very fortunate she and her husband felt for having the joy of experiencing this trip. “We are long-term supporters because we believe in the mission of Perkins,” Bridget said. “It is always rewarding to give to Perkins because we are confident that the money will be used to directly benefit the students and clients.  It also feels good to give locally.  It was an absolute delight to win this auction item and we look forward to bidding again at the upcoming event!”
