The dance troupe from Doctor Franklin Perkins School.
The stage was alive with the sound of music last Friday, December 15 as several of the Doctor Franklin Perkins School students and staff took to the spotlight for our annual holiday show. The level of talent was unmatched this year as group after group outdid the performers in front of them.
The event opened with the school’s chorus accompanied by the well-known Back Porch Band led by Perkins own Rick Cande. The Back Porch Band has been in existence for 30 years and showcases the talent of Tom Wing and Christian Slack on percussion, Andrew Lincoln on Bass, Rick Cande on guitar and Bill Carrier on piano.
Along with all of the crowd favorites of Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the audience was treated to a hip hop dance troupe performing a piece they called the Jingle Bell dance. Concert goers were also witness to three teachers Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree with one dressed up like an actual tree; a fact the students enjoyed almost as much as seeing another teacher dancing dressed up as Frosty the Snowman. Ben showed off his pipes as he belted out a solo performance of Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire and the eighth grade team treated us to visions of winter–a slide show of them reading poems they had written; many with great feeling.
A talented performer.
The stage all dolled up.
Morgan and Lucas took down the house with their duet of All I Want for Christmas is You. Rick introduced them as kids so talented, they would likely make Mariah Carey entertain going back to singing school, and they didn’t disappoint.
The event culminated with Santa’s arrival, but the seasons concluded with the obvious support and love all of the students hold for one another. Calls of, “You were terrific,” and “That was amazing” echoed around the hall after each performance making it clear to everyone in attendance that the Doctor Franklin Perkins School students and staff believe in the power of coming together to make music and magic, and that makes a very happy holiday for all.
