Graphing, multiplication and division are overwhelming to many, but in a concerted effort to make math less scary, the Doctor Franklin Perkins School has set aside seven days a year when math is celebrated with the hope of removing the math anxiety that is so prevalent among students today. “Math anxiety is a huge challenge, “Teacher Wendy Rock said. “By successfully navigating math day, and by becoming a successful math day helper, some of the anxiety is relieved.”
Math day is held in all grades and at all levels from K-12. Graphing Day was held on Friday, February 3 with a Valentine’s Day theme celebrated along with math. The students had a chance to make a line graph, a pictograph, a stem and leave plot and a scatter plot. Six other times during the year, math day is celebrated using different math themes.
