Author, Judith Warner, wrote We’ve Got Issues: Children and Parents in the Age of Medication, a book that takes a hard look at the face of mental health stigma in our time and describes how common myths and misconceptions about children with mental illness and their parents can keep kids from getting the help that they need. In this presentation, aimed at parents and professionals alike, she will describe her own journey toward greater understanding, explore the biases and fears that parents often bring to encounters with mental health practitioners, offer insights into media representations of mental illness and mental health care, and explore the role of anti-psychiatry in our culture and media. Judy’s presentation allows opportunity for audience comments and questions.
