STEAM Rolls Onto the Perkins Campus

Teachers sport these shirts every Friday through the summer.

Perkins students returned on July 7 to participate in a summer program based on STEAM; Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.  Since returning, students have had the opportunity to create a floral garden and tell the story of how it came into being –delighting  in the magic of having fairies in their garden or writing a story from the perspective of a worm are among the possible activities in this Plethora of Plants section which ran through July 14. Starting next week, students will have the chance to learn more about the human body and how it functions in the science area of the program. They will also learn about other animals and how they adapt. Through this section titled Amazing Animals students will learn about the diversity of life. Perkins summer program, now in full swing, runs until August 18.

Other themes that will be explored in the next few weeks include Electrifying Energy, Building Bridges, Terrific Technology and Wicked Weather.  A special event will take place at the end of each week to tie it all together.  In addition to classroom work, students will also participate in a variety of activities including but not limited to music, crafts, sports, reading groups and computer design groups. The students can choose a different group each week. The summer will culminate with a family night on Thursday, August 18. Families will be invited to come to the school and view the many projects students have completed.
